Film & Video Editing

Moving Image

Premiere Pro, After Effects

2019

In Moving Image, we were tasked with creating a short film from scratch. Working in a team of three, we created a script, filmed scenes and edited the short film.

The Plot

The story is about Alice, who is often mocked for being different. She finds out her ex-best friend Melanie who is now a part of the group actively mocking her, is dating Luke, a guy that Alice has a crush on. Later, Alice discovers Melanie crying as Luke had broken up with her and upon holding her hand, Melanie instantly stops crying and feels better. Feeling empowered by helping her ex-friend, Alice becomes more confident and confronts Luke.

 Reflection

Within the team, my responsibilities were selecting and securing the filming locations as well as audio and post-production editing. When it came to securing filming locations, I was the one to carry out any assessments and health and safety reports as per request from the University of Kent. During the audio part of my responsibilities, I was on boom mic, which the department had given me training for. For the editing portion of the role, we had cinematography classes to allow us to understand film theory such as the use of lighting. The short film was then edited in Premier Pro for the main sequencing and After Effects for the main visual adjustments and edits.

My Role

As a member of the UKC K-pop Dance Society Media Team, I often edited videos to be posted on Youtube and Instagram. The focus of the videos was dance so the editing was mild to not obscure the dance or the dancers themselves. The types of videos range from live performances to filmed covers where the dance is filmed over a period of a day to get an overall final version.

Product Design

Dickens
Re-written

2020

We were tasked with making a product that was educational for the 150th anniversary of Charles Dicken's death. My team planned to make an interactive display that ran an informative clip of Dickens' interest in the supernatural using projection mapping and a custom podium. The podium was designed to be installed and displayed at the Guildhall Museum, in Rochester. We designed the rig in a way that would allow the user to open the wooden book to trigger the animation. This involved installing a pin on the back of the book and pressing a button to activate a projector. This would ensure the animation played would be tracked and only projected on the wooden book. The goal was to research Dickens' interest in the supernatural and adapt this into a piece that would be interesting for a wide audience. Due to the location and the fact it was meant to be educational, the tone should be family-friendly and interesting for all ages. I created storyboards and concept images to showcase how the final product would look and work. We were also aware that the rig could be used in other situations as it's easily repurposed. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, we were unable to create a prototype of the rig as a final piece.

Website Design

Portfolio

2019

This project and module was based on developing previously learnt HTML skills and learning CSS to create a digital portfolio, showcasing my work within the University server. The assignment was building a website from scratch using HTML and CSS. This also included researching portfolios, creating an overall visual aesthetic to showcase my work and designing elements related to the website. I selected a starry astrology theme with a blue and purple colour palette. Another skill that was touched upon was the organisation of information to allow it to be easily read and understood. This was achieved by using infographics to show my proficiency in certain skills and also separating and signposting information to easily allow people to read through at a fast speed.

Adobe Lightroom

Learning essential skills for photography, such as composition as well as teaching and exploring the range of camera settings. Post Production Editing was taught during this module, this includes elements such as colour grading. Reflection For the assignment, we were asked to create a photography portfolio based on a chosen topic or theme. The portfolio consisted of various types of photos that were taken and edited by me. Included in the photography portfolio were portraits, still-life, photojournalism, landscapes, nature shots and architecture. The selected theme was the colour red, so to make all the photos fit together the object that was the main subject often had red hints or similar warm tones and colours such as hints of pink or orange.

Collage

Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop

2018

We were tasked with making a collage that was inspired by the art movement of Dadaism. Dadaism is known for being a nonsensical and often rough approach to collages. Reflection During the process of making the collage for this assignment, it was vital to do research into the Dadaism movement and also learn how to create a coherent portrait using images. The main subject of the collage is a portrait and the title was "la vie en rose", which was used in a very literal sense, having an entire background made out of images of roses, but the rest of the images was generally warm toned expect from the few used on the jacket within the collage. All images within the project were taken by me, either for the earlier project or this assignment.
